So, as some of you may know now, I've done a really stupid and ballsy thing and decided to stay in Portland, ME until I either starve or get employed. Hopefully, I'll be employed because I hate missing food. Why Portland? Well, besides the fact it's been one of my favorite places since I was a small child and I have friends and a b/f up here, it's also small enough to feel homey but large enough to feel urban (aka: I don't need a car and I don't feel trapped because of it), their arts community is great and their museum is awesome, and it's the perfect place to tone up my photography practices. My project for the new year is to start my second major series, a sequel to the successful collection I created my senior year of college, The Grecian Gild. I'm very focused with the idea of telling a story with my photographs, so then what's more appropriate than creating photographs about story telling? The Brothers Grimm were 19th century German academics who became renown for their collection of German folk, fairy, and morality tales. There were seven editions of their fairy tales published until the mid-19th century, and while tales were added or subtracted from edition-to-edition, the seventh and final book held 211 stories. So, I've started my own production studio with a few branches for all the kind of work I do. Of course, I'll always have Kathleen Sculley Photography, my first and true baby, but it now has some company. There's Lielberg & Splucas, a filmmaking company that I started with a close friend and colleague from school, as well as Jackalope Graphics Co., my graphic design branch that I'm experimenting with and finding a fair amount of success with. I'm very, very excited about all the projects I'm going to be getting into. You'll see bits and pieces of my experiments on DeviantArt, so hang in there folks! I'm just getting warmed up. :)
